Why this module matters

Learning that helps staff decide what to do next.

Lead-level knowledge of section 42 enquiries, MSP and oversight responsibilities.

Dragonfly modules are designed for people supporting children, adults and vulnerable communities. The goal is not simply to pass a quiz. The goal is to build the language, confidence and professional judgement needed in real practice.

Learning outcomes

  • Recognise concern, risk and threshold indicators with professional curiosity.
  • Understand when to record, consult, escalate or share information.
  • Practise realistic safeguarding decisions where several responses may seem reasonable.
  • Explain the rationale for safer action in supervision, audit or inspection.
Professional judgement assessment preview

A practitioner is under pressure to give a quick answer. What should good practice look like?

A. Give a confident decision immediately, because uncertainty can make learners, families or colleagues lose trust in the process.
B. Follow the usual pathway even when the details do not quite fit, because consistency is normally the safest defence.
C. Pause, check the relevant facts, consider risk and rights, and explain the reason for the next step.
D. Ask someone senior to take over the decision entirely, so the practitioner is not personally responsible for the outcome.

Preferred answer: C. Dragonfly questions reward careful reasoning, not overconfidence. A quick response can still be professional when it is checked and explained.

Assessment design: Dragonfly uses sample scenarios with plausible distractors, balanced answer lengths and deliberate complexity checks so staff have to read carefully rather than guess the longest or most detailed option.
